Main Beliefs

They show gradatude to a statue of Buddha.
They believe that wealth is not happiness.
They have 4 noble truths:
1. The truth of Suffering
2. The Origin of Suffering
3. The Cessation of Suffering
4. The Truth of the Path

They believe in the cycle of rebirth.

Gods


Some Buddhists believe in gods, some don't - but belief in gods is not at all required by Buddhism. It is actually recommended against. Buddha was not a god.




Sacred Writings
The tripitaka is the earliest collection of Buddhist writings. It means three baskets. It is the only text recognized as canonical by Theravada Buddhists. Many commentaries have been added over the centuries. The text was written on long, narrow leaves, which were sewn at the edges then grouped into bunches and stored in baskets.

Practices



Buddhism incorporates a variety of rituals and practices. They practice Vesak. Buddhists also practice mindfulness, compassion, and understanding. They do meditation to help them have right mindfulness. Meditation derives from the Buddha's experiences and teachings. The practices are intended to aid the journey to enlightenment and bring blessings on oneself and others.


HolidaysSangha Day - Sangha means fellowship of Buddhists.
Dhamma Day - Observed on the full moon day of the eighth lunar month.
Observation Day - Refers to each of the four traditional monthly holy days that continue to be observed.
